Week of December 15-19, 2008

It is hard to believe there is only one week left before Christmas vacation.  We will be busy with many activities in the classroom, and also on Friday we will go caroling at two care centers in Ames, go ice skating, and have a Christmas party.  If you can drive, please let me or our room parent for December, Mrs. Debner, know.

Bible - Character trait - love, "Love God's way: Give each day."

Memory verse - They found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.  Luke 2:16

Science - The children were very interested in seeing different types of shells from an island off the coast of Maine that I picked up this summer.  As the tide went out, the beach looked blue, covered with these shells that had a blue cast to them.  Each student got to take some home with them.

Reading - sight words - List 1 - practice: the, to, and, he, a, I, you, it, of, in, was, said, his, that, she, for, on, they, but, had.  Your children will be tested on these words at the beginning of next week to see where they are at this time and what needs to be worked on.

Handwriting - Review A, C, D, E, F, I, L, O, T.  We have very neat writers in our room.

Phonics - We keep adding to our ABC book at center time and practice blending sounds together to make words.  We read Jen the Hen's Big Book to practice the short e sound.

Math - Shapes and Solids

Spanish - We learned words that have to do with school, such as chair and desk, and the numbers from zero to nine.

We have been singing Christmas carols and the songs from our ACS Christmas program.  This afternoon we had some Christmas fun making a gingerbread house.

All the students at ACS are very excited about bringing hope to others through their donations to World Concern.

This year instead of having a gift exchange, each student is being asked to bring a $5 to $10 donation.  ACS has chosen to buy dairy goats to get the families started on their way out of poverty.

As you send your child’s donation, we will keep track of how many goats ACS is able to buy.  We can now buy 3 and 1/2 goats.

Matthew 25:40

The King will reply, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”
