October 17, 2008 - 3:18 PM

Bible
This month we will be working on the character traits of attentiveness and faithfulness.  We will continue our study on faith this week.  We will be looking at the examples of faith given in Hebrews 11.  Verse quiz over Hebrews 11:1-2 will be on Wednesday.

Math
3rd - This week we will begin to study subtraction.  We will learn about regrouping tens and hundreds, as well as subtracting across zeros.
4th - The test has been moved to this Monday.  Then we will begin a unit on subtraction.  We will be reviewing subtraction with 2 and 3 digits, as well as estimating differences.
5th - We will be focusing on learning more about decimals.  We will work on equivalent decimals, subtracting decimals, and problem solving with decimals.

Language Arts
Verbs are what’s happening in our classroom!  All grades will be starting a unit on verbs.  This week we will study action verbs as well as verb tenses.

Spelling
This week we will be studying the words from Lesson 11.  Each day students will complete a workbook page.  On Monday the students’ assignment will be to use each of the spelling words correctly in a sentence.  Students may work on this assignment over the weekend, but the sentences are not due until Tuesday.  A final test will be given each Friday.

Reading
We will be waiting to read The Rebel until we are closer to our history unit on the Revolutionary War.  Instead, we will begin reading a classic by E.B. White: The Trumpet of the Swan.  The main character is Louis, a swan who is born unable to make a sound!

American History
In History this year we will be studying the history of America. We complete chapter 4 with a test on Monday.  On Tuesday we will begin chapter 5 - The New England Colonies.  We will begin by studying the founding of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.
