Week of October 27, 2008: 7th and 8th Grade
Week of October 27, 2008
This is the first week of the second quarter. Report Cards will come home sometime early this week. Parents are also asked to sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences this week. A sign up form will come home with your student and be sent by e-mail. Please respond ASAP to schedule your time. I look forward to meeting each parent to encourage and challenge each student.
7th and 8th Grade Science
Monday 27: We took our Oceans chapter test on Friday. This means we will start a new chapter today.
Our next chapter is about Minerals. We had a speaker a few weeks ago that introduced us to this material. We will learn what minerals are today.
ASSIGNMENT: Read pgs 36-38
Tuesday 28: In order to understand minerals and their chemical composition, we need to learn about the periodic table. Students will be given the periodic table and we will learn the different elements of this table.
Wednesday 29: Minerals are divided into two different mineral groups based on their composition.
ASSIGNMENT: Read pgs 39-42. Answer questions on pg 42
Thursday 30 and Friday 31: We will spend a couple of days learning about the different mineral properties. If I can secure enough samples, we will do a lab that tests these different qualities of rocks.
7th and 8th Grade Math
Monday 27

7th Grade:Homework from lesson 30 is due today. We will review and take a test on Tuesday over lessons 1-28.

8th Grade:
Homework from lesson 33 is due today.
Lesson 34 introduces student to the use of variables. Students will learn to substitute a value for the variable.
ASSIGNMENT: PS 34 (pg 100)6-16, 22-24

Math Test today -
8th Grade
Lesson 35 uses unit multipliers to convert from one unit to another. We will do several practice problems together. No additional homework will be given. Students will make corrections to their PS 34 instead.
Wednesday 29

7th Grade
We will work with coordinate planes today as we investigate how to plot ordered pairs.
ASSIGNMENT: Coordinate grid design. Due Tomorrow -
8th Grade
We will review unit multipliers and practice adding mixed numbers.
ASSIGNMENT: PS 36 (pg 105) a-d, 1-30 Due FRIDAY
Thursdsay 30

7th Grade
We will go over the coordinate grid design. Our next lesson is on reading and writing decimal numbers.
ASSIGNMENT: PS 31 (PG 186) a-i, 2. 7-12,20-29 -
8th Grade
Work time will be given for the assignment given yesterday. We will also do a real life word problem.

I will look over the work completed and answer any questions that are necessary. We will start work on the metric system, but no additional assignment will be given. -
